Bike wise

Challenge terms and conditions

  • The Bike Wise Challenge runs between 1 February and 28 February every year (or 29 February every fourth year)  ('the Challenge period'). Specific registration dates for the Challenge differ each year. These dates will be shown on the Bike Wise website at www.bikewise.co.nz
  • It is open to all New Zealand residents.
  • No purchase is necessary.
  • Registration is free via the Bike Wise website. Upon registration, an organisation or department will be classified as a team according to the number of staff employed by the registered organisation or department. The size categories are: Very Small (3 to 6), Small (7 to 24), Medium (25 to 99), Large (100 to 499), Very Large (500+)
  • Once a team is registered, individuals of that organisation or department may register their individual participation into that team.
  • If a team's size increases to more than the team's size category, Bike Wise will move the team into the appropriate size category.
Individual and team registration can continue throughout the duration of the Challenge period.
  • Bike Wise shall not be held responsible for any late, incomplete, corrupted or incorrect registrations as a result of any software or hardware failure, or otherwise.
  • Cycle trips must occur within the Challenge period to contribute to the team's results.
  • Cycle trips must be logged via the Bike Wise website at http://www.bikewise.co.nz/bike-wise-challenge. If trips are not logged in this way, they cannot contribute to the team's results.
  • Bike Wise accepts no liability for the accuracy of the cycle data logged. It is understood by agreeing to the terms and conditions, participants are responsible for entering their cycle data accurately and with integrity.
  • A valid cycle trip is defined as a participant cycling for a minimum of 10 minutes or 2 kms on a pedal cycle.
  • Cycle trips do not include use of motorcycles, motorised bicycles, scooters or stationary cycles.
  • Bike Wise accepts no liability for loss or damage to personal effects, personal accident or injury to teams or individuals whilst participating in cycle trips for the Challenge period.
  • At the end of the Challenge period, a certificate will be awarded to the team (organisation or department) in each size category, in each region which achieves the highest percentage of employees completing cycle trips during the Challenge period.
  • Where two or more teams achieve equal highest percentage participation, the winning team will be decided upon which one has achieved the highest percentage of rookie cyclists (a rookie is defined as someone who hasn't cycled in the last year or more).
  • Where two or more teams have achieved equal percentage of rookie cyclists then the winner will be decided by a random draw.
  • Winning teams will be notified of provisional results by email within the second week of March every year. Specific dates of notification differ each year and will be made available on the Bike Wise website at www.bikewise.co.nz.
  • There are 10 National morning tea vouchers to be won, one for the top organisation and one for the top department in New Zealand in each size category. To qualify for the National prize, departments and organisations must achieve at least 10% participation.
  • From time to time, there may be upgrades to the Bike Wise Challenge database that may affect the Challenge participant statistics. All efforts will be made to ensure the accuracy of statistics available on the Bike Wise website.
  • Bike Wise's decision on the winners is final and binding and no correspondence shall be entered into.
  • Organisations and departments which are in the first, second, or third position may be requested to provide a letter from their organisation's HR department, or a senior manager, to confirm the exact number of staff that are employed in that organisation or registered department.
  • Organisations and departments with one or two employees are not eligible to enter or win the Challenge; however, by registering on the website they will be eligible to win the spot prizes.
  • No cash or other prize alternatives are available.
  • The prize winners may be required to participate in publicity and promotional activities.
  • Bike Wise reserves the right to substitute the prize for any prize of an equal or greater value in the event of circumstances beyond its control.
  • Participants must be at least 16 years old to participate in the Challenge and register on this website.
  • If there is evidence of cheating, the whole organisation will be disqualified. If a regional branch of an organisation registers itself as a separate organisation, participation will be counted toward the efforts of that branch only, and not accrued to any parent organisations. To win a national prize, a minimum of 10% or of your department or organisation must participate in the Bike Wise Challenge. Organisations must be a recognisable entity with verifiable membership e.g. church, school, business. Organisations (teams) created specifically for the purposes of competing in the Bike Wise Challenge will not be eligible to receive any prizes.
