Introducing the Big Bike Fix Up (BBFU)

There must be hundreds of neglected bikes sitting in sheds around the country.  Fortunately, Bike Wise has provided online resources for running a Big Bike Fix Up event!  The new safety initiative is designed to encourage new and past bike-riders to haul their unused bikes out of storage and go to events for a quick maintenance check to make sure it is safe and road-worthy.  Research shows that a major barrier to people getting on their bikes is the cost of repairs and maintenance.  The more help people can get with fixing their unloved bikes, the more people will get back into their saddles!

If you are an event coordinator and want more information, check out the Bike Wise resources page.  A guide with tips on how to plan, promote, and run a Big Bike Fix Up event has been created to help you run a successful event with great ideas about location, advertising and examples of similar events.  There are also resources available like posters and flyers so you can advertise the event in your area.  Take a look and think about including a Big Bike Fix Up as part of another event, or create a separate event that focuses on bike checks and repairs.  If you register the event on the Bike Wise website,  you will receive a coordinator’s kit full of goodies (limited stocks so get in quick!).

Do you have a bike in need of some TLC?  Check out the events finder on the Bike Wise website.  You can search for events in your region and then head along to get some inspiration to start riding your bike (again!).  Remember, there are great health benefits from cycling and you will save money by not taking the car.
