Bike user groups
Think about how you could encourage others to try commuting by bike too! After all someone encouraged you to try AND it is great to share the ride with a buddy. Build up your cycling network of support:
1. Set Up a BUG (Bike User Group)
- Create a workplace travel plan
- Offer journey planning and alternatives for staff
- Encourage meetings locally or near convenient cycle routes rather than drive
- Share and map company specific routes
- Organise cycle skills training!
2. What would make your workplace better for cycling?
- A safe secure place to park your bike is a must
- Start a company bike pool!
- Lockers help with storing extra gear or
stockpiling a change of clothes for the week
- Showers and changing rooms are not a
necessity but sure are a sweet bonus
3. Talk to Management about the positives of a bike friendly workplace
- Healthier, fitter staff are more productive and
have lower absentee rates – although they may
eat more chocolate
- Cycling is a door to door mode of transport.
- Healthy workers are happy workers.
- Maintaining a Green image not only attracts
employees but also clients.
- We all loved sports days as kids – fun
competitions (similar to the BikeWise
Challenge) in house or with other companies
are great team building and boost moral.
